During the last day of school in 1959 a tragic event took the life of a graduating senior. As an act of mourning for a lost friend, one of the classmates who was also a musician climbed to the top of the local water tower, and as an act of love and respect played a moving rendition of the music ''TAPS''. Many say that for many years afterward on graduation day if you know the correct hour to listen, you could hear the sound of TAPS being played by someone on a horn coming from atop the water tower.
